Thinking about black interior doors – good idea or overkill?
Hi all, remodeling the hallway and bedrooms and considering painting or buying black interior doors to create more contrast against light walls and floors. Looks stylish in photos, but I’m worried they might make the space feel smaller or show every fingerprint. Has anyone installed black interior door in their home recently? How’s the maintenance and overall vibe after a year or so?

I went with black interior doors about 18 months ago and I’m still happy with the decision. They give a modern, almost hotel-like feel without being too dramatic when the rest of the room stays bright. Dust and smudges are actually less noticeable than on white doors (weird, but true). Just get a good semi-gloss or matte finish. I ended up ordering mine from Trio Doors because they had a decent range of styles and sizes in stock – you can see their black interior door selection black interior door options here. Measure twice though, custom sizes took a bit longer. Would do it again.
